What is E-Ticketing?
E-Ticketing,
or online ticket sales, is a new way for people to buy tickets
for local events. It is an online ticket
booking facility which is designed to help community
groups who don’t have access to this 21st century
sales system. It allows community groups to promote events
and sell tickets online through the DesiDirectory.com
website.
At the moment there is no system for people to
buy tickets online for small events. There are also few
ways of buying
tickets with a credit or debit card. The E-Ticketing
system makes it easier for people to buy tickets for
a range of events all from one website. Tickets can be
bought in this way with cash, cheques or credit/debit
cards.
People without access to the internet can book
tickets through public internet terminals in libraries or
at
the Tourist Information and Visitor Centre.
Who can use E-Ticketing?
Anyone can buy a ticket on the online system. You will
also need to register on DesiDirectory.com to use the system.
This is a very simple process and helps you keep track
of which tickets you have bought.
How can I use it to promote events?
Promoters have their own secure area on the e-ticketing
site where they can monitor sales and print off a list
of people who have booked to attend their events.
You need
to register before you can start selling tickets. The registration
process asks for information about your
personal contact details as well as details of your community
group and who should be paid the ticket revenue. We ask
that promoters are organisations, not individuals, and
that all cheques can be sent to your organisation. If
this will be a problem please contact us.The registration
process also requires you to accept the terms and conditions
for selling tickets on-line.Once you have been approved as
a promoter you can start promoting events.
You can post events
on the website and you can set how many tickets you want
to sell online. You can also set
how many are sold at different prices, such as for children,
students or members’ seats as well as differentiating
between premium and normal seating. However, the system
is not able to allocate individual seat numbers at the
moment.
The system automatically adds a 10% booking fee to
the cost of each ticket. You might want to consider this
when setting the price of the tickets.
You can define the
amount of time which the event is valid for. The amount of
tickets that are on sale can be changed
at any time while the tickets are on sale.
The system lets
you produce reports for reconciliation, audit, management
information and giving the payment
to the community group. These can be taken off the system
at any time.
You will then be told by email when the event has reached
its expiry date. You will also be reminded to run off
the attendance report at this time.
You can also allocate
free tickets on the e-ticketing site. Complete the details
for the event in the same way. The
only difference will be that the payment part is skipped.
Reports and door lists can still be taken from the system
in the same way and users will still need a receipt
How can I use it to buy tickets?
You will be able to look
through a list of events and then buy tickets online. You
can either select on the title
of the event (in blue) or you can select from the drop
down menus the name of the promoter, the name of the
performance and the date that it is on. You can buy tickets
for more than one event on the system by selecting another
event and adding this to your shopping
basket. Before you buy tickets you will be asked to accept
the terms and conditions for the sale of tickets. You will
then be sent a confirmation email and there is also a printable
receipt which you will need to get into
the event.
You can also get free tickets on the site. This lets you
reserve a place for an event that may have limited numbers
but is free. You will need to go through the booking
process in the same way but the payment step will be
skipped. You will still need to print off the receipt
and take this with you to the event.
Do I have to pay to use it?
You do not have to pay to use the system. All you have
to pay for is the tickets you buy and the 10% booking
fee.
All the money from the ticket sales (excluding the 10%
booking fee) will go directly to you as the promoter.
Cheques will be sent out 14-30 days after the event.
What are the benefits of e-ticketing?
At the moment there are only a few ways to buy tickets
for community arts events. This system gives you quick
and easy access to a range of events through one website.
It lets you buy tickets using credit/debit card and cheque,
which many ticket outlets are unable to do at the moment.
It is also completely secure.
Any organisation that is planning an event and is responsible
for ticket sales for the event can promote an event on
the website. All promoters who sign up will be approved
by the administrator before they can start selling tickets
so only those who can show that they are the main event
organiser will allowed to promote the event.
The system allows you to promote your event for free and
sell tickets for your event to a much larger audience.
It also means that you do not have to pay for the cost
of setting up this system or administering it.
